LAS VEGAS, Nv. (WUSA) - The Fairfax County Police Department says they have finally tracked down a suspect they say abducted his estranged wife twice nearly 20 years ago.
Bruce Webster, a 68-year-old former Fairfax County Police officer, has been the focus of a Fairfax County Cold Case Squad investigation since he failed to appear in court to face two counts of abduction and a weapons charge in 1991.
Police believe Bruce Webster abducted his estranged wife on May 18, 1990, and again on January 1, 1991. Webster was arrested on January 7, 1991, for the second abduction. A warrant was issued when webster failed to appear for his preliminary hearing and the case was eventually transferred to the Cold Case Squad.
Officials say Cold Case detectives learned about the abductions while investigating the murder of Websters estranged wife, Joann Webster. She was found murdered in her home in the 8600 block of Sacramento Drive in Fairfax County in February of 1991. Joann Webster's homicide is still under investigation.
Webster was located and interviewed in Las Vegas in January 2009. He was later indicted in Fairfax County on May 18th for both abductions and the weapons charge. On May 21st Webster was taken into custody in Las Vegas where he remains in custody awaiting extradition.
