WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) --- The National Park Service is moving up the peak dates for the 2009 cherry blossoms.

The cherry blossom trees were originally expected to peak April 3rd through April 9th.  Now the new prediction dates are April 1st through April 4th.

The blossoms are considered at peak bloom when 70-percent of the blooms are open.

The peak bloom is centered around the National Cherry Blossom Festival which runs from March 28 through April 12th.
