ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County's economic development director has been on leave pending the outcome of an ethics probe, but now a county official says he will not return to his post.
Pradeep Ganguly was on leave with pay while a $25,000 grant his department awarded to his son's company was investigated.
Chief Administrative Officer Timothy Firestine said Wednesday that Ganguly and the county agreed that it was best if he did not stay.
Firestine says Ganguly was given a severance package.
Ganguly has said he did not take part in discussions or the decision to award the grant to WeddingWire, the where his son is chief marketing officer.
Ganguly says he signed a formal letter notifying the company of the grant because senior managers told him he was the only person authorized to sign it.
