James M. Pickett charged after damage to sprinkler and alarm system

CALVERT COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- An inmate at the Calvert County Detention Center has been charged after he damaged a fire sprinkler head and activation of the fire alarm system. 

James M. Pickett, 25 has been charged with causing a 'False Alarm and Malicious Destruction of Property'. The incident happened around 6:20 a.m. when officials found that a cell block had been flooded after damage to the sprinkler head, which then activated the fire alarm system. The estimated damage is $400, police said. 

Pickett could face penalties of up to five years and two months additional imprisonment and/or $5,500 in fines, officials said.
