ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Officials have charged three people in connection to an armed bank robbery in Virginia.

James McNeal, 63, James Link, 56, and Alphonso Stoddard, 59, all face a maximum penalty of 25 years' in prison if convicted. They robbed multiple banks in the DC area.

The FBI had followed them as they left from Maryland to a Wells Fargo bank branch in Arlington. That's where an FBI SWAT team was prepositioned and were able to catch them before they fled the scene. During that attempted robbery, one of the suspects Stoddard jumped over the teller counter and took around $47,000 in cash, officials said.

Officials note that 'criminal complaints are only charges and not evidence of guilt.  A defendant is presumed to be innocent until and unless proven guilty'.
