GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA9 -- Prince George's County police have driven the rate of thefts from cars down 30 percent since 2010 and say that aggressive prevention can help them do even better.

As a result, officers are fanning out across mall parking lots in the county to hand out flyers and leave warning postcards on vehicles when they see alluring items left in full view.

Items such as GPS devices, phones, computers and personal bags are attractive lures for smash and grab break-ins during the holiday season police say.
