ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- The Mega Millions jackpot has soared to an estimated $400 million.

More than 144,000 tickets in Virginia won prizes in the Tuesday drawing, including four Virginia tickets that each won $5,000. Those tickets were purchased in Alexandria, Chesapeake, Fredericksburg and Virginia Beach.

On Dec. 13, the drawing will be an estimated $400 million. This is the second-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history, and the fifth-largest ever in North America.

The Virginia Lottery says they expect to sell more than 1.9 million Mega Millions tickets in the Commonwealth on Friday alone.

Eight Mega Millions jackpots have been won in Virginia since the game began in 2002.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday nights at 11:00. You can watch live at www.valottery.com and on the Lottery's Facebook page.
