CLARKSVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Howard County police are offering a reward for information about a September arson case that has been classified as attempted murder.

Police and fire officials were called to a residential fire shortly after midnight on Sept. 8 in the 5000 block of Ten Oaks Road in Clarksville, Md.

Five occupants, three adults and two small children, were in the home at the time of the fire, police say. All escaped without injury.

The homeowner told police that he and his wife detected a strange odor in the house shortly after midnight, according to a news release. They then saw smoke, alerted the family members and left the house.

Police believe the fire was intentionally set, as investigators determined that an accelerant was poured onto the home's front porch and ignited.

A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered for information from the public. Anyone with info is urged to call police at 410-313-STOP.
