WASHINGTON (AP) - An ambitious plan to build a new $300 million soccer stadium for D.C. United has already fallen behind schedule.

Under a deal announced in July, the city and team would split the cost of the stadium. But The Washington Post reports deadlines have already been missed in the process to acquire land for the stadium.

City Administrator Allen Lew had been given a Nov. 15 deadline to share with the D.C. Council the terms for how the city would obtain the stadium site. Mayor Vincent Gray had said it would be enough time for the council to approve the plan before year's end.

Now Lew says he intends to make substantial progress in December. But council members say they don't want to rush through an expensive stadium deal.
