WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder has been quoted as saying he will never change the name of his football team.

But leaders of the Oneida Indian Nation are hoping others can convince him to change his mind, beginning with President Obama who said if it were his team, he would be thinking about it.

Native American leaders say the name is offensive and they brought their campaign to change the "Redskins" name to Washington, DC on Monday in hopes of getting a meeting, if not attention from the NFL owners who will be meeting here on Tuesday.

The press conference at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Georgetown packed as DC Congressional delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton compared the "R" word to the "N" word.

A spokesman for the NFL later confirmed to WUSA9 that a meeting with the Oneida Indian Nation had been set for November 22nd, but added that meeting will probably be held sooner.
