DETROIT (DETROIT FREE PRESS) -- The man accused of attempting to break into Kid Rock's Independence Township home in July was so drunk that he has no recollection of the incident, his attorney told a judge Wednesday afternoon.

Brian Keith, 43, of Independence Township pleaded no contest to attempted home invasion, malicious destruction of a building and malicious destruction of personal property before Oakland County Circuit Judge Wendy Potts. All three charges are felonies.

A habitual offender, Keith faced up to life if convicted. Potts, in accepting the plea, said she would consider a sentence of 10-46 months in prison.

His court-appointed attorney, Douglas Oliver, said he also will ask that Keith receive substance-abuse treatment as part of his sentence.

"As a result of intoxicants, he has no independent recollection of his actions that day," Oliver told the judge.

Keith, who has a long history of substance abuse, was caught on videotape ramming his van into the gate leading up to Kid Rock's home, and then breaking a window and attempting to enter another. Investigators said Keith did more than $30,000 in damage.

Kid Rock - the Detroit area rocker whose real name is Robert Ritchie - did not attend today's hearing.

He was not home at the time, but later publicly pledged to shoot anyone who threatened his home and family. He also offered a $5,000 reward for information in the case.

Keith was arrested several days later, following tips. He will be sentenced Sept. 25.
