DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (WUSA9) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say a man who was wanted for arson was arrested at Washington Dulles International Airport on Tuesday.
According to CBP officials, 24-year-old Jose Mejia Penida arrived at the airport on a flight from El Salvador. Penida is a Honduran citizen living in Alexandria, Va. who was wanted by the Maryland State Police for arson, according to officials. CBP officers determined there was a warrant of arrest for arson and arrested Pineda. He was then turned over to Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority police, say officials.
According to Police, in January this year, Pineda and his wife allegedly set their 2009 Acura TL on fire to get insurance money. His wife was already arrested but Pineda tried to flee the country.
CBP placed an immigration detainer on Pineda, who is a legal permanent resident of the U.S., say officials. The detainer ensures that he is "returned to CBP upon the adjudication of any charges," according to officials.
