WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The surviving panda cub born Friday at the National Zoo is healthy and very active, the zoo tweeted.

The cub weighs grams, or about 4.83 ounces - which is normal for a newborn panda, zoo officials said after the panda team took biological samples Sunday morning.

"The cub is robust, fully formed and is a bright, healthy shade of pink," the zoo said in a press release.

The cub's heart rate is steady and they were able to hear breathing sounds from both lungs, officials said.

"The cub is nursing and digesting successfully," vets said.

The sex of the cub will be known in two to three weeks.

Mei Xiang, the Giant Panda at the National Zoo, gave birth to a second cub on Saturday but it was a stillborn. Zoo officials said in a release that the cub was "never alive."
