WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Young Catholics are gathering in D.C. for World Youth Day to unite in prayer with Pope Francis.
At the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land at 1400 Quincy St. NE, Washington, DC 20017, "Rio in DC" is bringing the spirit of World Youth Day close to home.
"Rio in DC" is organized by the Archdiocese of Washington's Office of Young Adult Ministry in partnership with the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land.
The event includes a live feed of Pope Francis's vigil in Brazil, an outdoor candlelit Mass in English and Spanish, Brazilian food, Samba dancing and more.
"Rio in DC is an opportunity for young adults to make a pilgrimage of the heart, feel connected to the universal Church and experience some of the excitement of World Youth Day without leaving DC," said Jonathan Lewis, event organizer and archdiocesan coordinator of young adult ministry.
