SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- Members of the Save Ten Mile Creek Coalition have gathered Thursday morning on the steps on the Montgomery County Planning Board in Silver Spring.

The board is expected to present their draft plan for development near Clarksburg. The coalition is urging the board to change the plan to protect Ten Mile Creek, a source of drinking water in the area.

The coalition said in a statement: "The draft plan does not reflect the recommendations of local, state and national environmental agencies, nor does it utilize proven measures shown effective in protecting other county creek systems. In fact, the plan proposes methods that have degraded other county creek systems. "

Montgomery County Councilmember Marc Elrich gave a speech at the beginning of the rally.

Officials say the Save Ten Mile Creek Coalition is comprised of more than a dozen environmental and civic organizations.
