OXON HILL, Md. (WUSA9) -- Close to 100,000 people by some estimates could be affected by the water main failure in southern Prince George's County, Md. They need to get water, and a lot of people are pitching in to help them.
Wednesday morning, WUSA9's Jessica Doyle was at Rivertowne Shopping Center in Oxon Hill with WPGC. Safeway is chipping in as well.
Our new best friends at the Pablo Show are kicking off the water giveaway. There are cases upon cases of water. For people who can come to the Safeway in Oxon Hill, they can walk up to the WPGC truck and get free water until the water comes back on in Prince George's County.
Safeway also has a very special give away that they're working on. The Southern Regional Technology & Recreation Complex in Fort Washington begin distributing water to the senior centers at 9 a.m. At 2 p.m. they will open the giveaway to the public on a first come, first serve basis. When you get there and the giveaway starts, you will be able to get two one-gallon jugs of water per person if you live in Prince George's County. Safeway is giving away 4800 gallons of water in total.
The Community of Hope AME Church on Branch Ave. in Hillcrest Heights will also begin distributing water to senior centers at 9 a.m. There's no set time on when they will open the giveaway to the public.
There are three other locations where you can get free water in Prince George's County. These distribution points will be giving away water from noon until 9:00 p.m.: Hillcrest Heights Elementary School, Thurgood Marshal Middle School and Oxon Hill Elementary School. For that water distribution, you need to know that residents should bring their own water containers to get free water.
