WOODBRIDGE (WUSA9) -- Prince William County police are looking for a man who is accused of shoplifting at a mall and pepper spraying two employees in the face before taking off in a vehicle. Police say the man didn't make a clean getaway: he dropped his D.C. driver's license.
The incident happened on the Fourth of July at Potomac Mills Mall in Woodbridge, say police. Two men told police that they were with loss prevention at the Saks and saw a man shoplifting. The men reported that they confronted the man in the parking lot. Then, the man pepper sprayed them in the face, according to police.
Police say the man ran away, dropped the merchandise (which was more than $1,000 worth of clothing) along with his driver's license and then got into a vehicle with D.C. tags. The two victims were able to get the license plate number and gave it to police officers say police.
The driver's license showed the man was 27-year-old Derrick Kiwan Brown of Washington, D.C. You can see a photo from November 2011 of Brown above. He is described as a black male, 6'1" tall, and 190 pounds with a thin build, long black hair (possibly a wig), and brown eyes.
Brown is wanted for 2 counts of malicious injury by caustic substance, for the pepper spraying, and 1 count of grand larceny.
