FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA9) -- Virginia State Police say the driver of a vehicle that crashed on Interstate 495 near the Braddock Road exit on Wednesday afternoon fell asleep before the crash.

According to police, they were notified about the crash at approximately 12:45 p.m.

According to their preliminary information, the driver of a Honda Passport fell asleep while traveling north on I-495. Police say he then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to overturn, then come to rest upright on the right shoulder of I-495. The Passport was the only vehicle involved in the crash, according to police.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Rouzbeh Malek of Fairfax, and four passengers were taken to Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Malek was charged with reckless driving.

All lanes of 495 were shut down, but re-opened shortly after 1:23 p.m.
