WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The District of Columbia Department Of Corrections says in a press release that an inmate apparently committed suicide on Saturday. His death would be the second reported suicide at the D.C. jail this month.
According to the Department of Corrections, 42-year-old Walter Calloway of S.E. Washington "died by an apparent suicide by hanging in his cell at the D.C. Central Detention Facility." Officials say attempts by corrections officers and medical staff "to resuscitate were unsuccessful on the scene."
Calloway was incarcerated at the jail on June 27 on a felony charge of 1st Degree Child Sexual Abuse, say officials.
