WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Metro Red Line trains single tracked between Takoma and NoMa-Gallaudet stations after a train hit an object on the "wayside of the track," according to Metro.

The incident happened after noon Friday just outside the Rhode Island Avenue station, say Metro officials.

Officials say the train did not derail and there are no reported injuries. Witnesses at the scene said that one woman did have what appeared to be a panic attack.

More than 60 people were aboard the train at the time. They were put on a second train and taken to the Brookland-CUA station, say officials.

We spoke to a few of the riders at the Brookland station. One rider reported a "bang sound" and feeling the train rock. He said the power then went out and people knew something was wrong.

As for what the object was, one man reported it was an electrical wire at the side of the train. Another man said it looked like a utility box.

Metro officials advised Red Line riders to use the Green Line as an alternate route between Fort Totten and Gallery Place stations. Red Line trains experience delays in both directions.
