WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Just three and a half days after a devastating fire destroyed historic Frager's Hardware Store, they are back in business.

Crowds swarmed the temporary store at Eastern Market for a ribbon cutting.

Frager's friends could hardly wait as they chanted 'we want Frager's! We want Frager's!"

Mayor Vincent Gray declared at a press conference and ribbon cutting Sunday afternoon that 'Frager's is open for business.'

Customers grabbed plants and flowers by the armful, and in many cases the wagon-full.

It's not the same Frager's but the old familiar tight spaces, the crowds, and friendly smiling faces.

John Weintraub has owned Frager's for 37 years, "I'm overwhelmed. It makes you feel so good, all the support from the city and staff came together."

In a matter of a minutes, the line stretched from the front to the back of the designated pop-up store located at Eastern Market.

"It's too bad it happened at an old-school hardware store that's unique in all of America and especially DC," said Heather Childs, a customer.

"To be able to stand here and say that Frager's will have a continuing presence after 93 years, really feels good," said Mayor Gray.

The city provided the space near Eastern Market and they're helping to smooth the way for unemployment insurance for the 65 employees who may need help finding other work. But if Frager's can keep up with sales at the pace scene on Sunday, they may not need it.

"As long as we can get sales up, everybody has a job," said Weintraub.

Weintraub wants to get a key shop going, for those who have come to rely on them, and eventually bring back the paint store.

The pop-up store located at Eastern Market is the same temporary lot that the market used when it burned down in 2006. There is still no cause to the Frager's fire.
