WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- DC police are investigating an overnight crash that has left one driver dead and her passenger injured.
Metropolitan Police officials say the single-vehicle collision occurred in the northbound lanes of 295 north of Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue around 11:47 Thursday night. The driver of the car, a woman in her 20's, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger was also injured and transported to a local hospital. The survivor's condition is unknown at this time.
The identity of the driver has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Right now police have few details to release on how the crash occurred. Accident reconstruction of the incident and clean-up operations blocked the northbound lanes of 295 between Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue and Easter Avenue for approximately five hours. All lanes reopened around 4:50 a.m.
