MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- Investigators believe a man duct taped two dogs' legs and mouths, placed them in a trunk and ultimately killed one after a relationship dispute with a woman in Manassas.
According to Prince William County police, 44-year-old Khanh Hoang Hong entered the woman's home on April 17 and duct taped the male and female West Highland terriers before putting them in the trunk of his car. Police say Hong dumped the female dog on the side of the road in a trash bag on Copeland Drive. While driving on Thoroughfare Drive, police say he discovered the male dog had gotten loose in the trunk so he let the dog go.
According to police, a homeowner found the female dog dead in the trash bag while a passing motorist found the male dog injured. The motorist took the dog to a veterinarian facility and the vet called the dog's owner, say police.
On April 22, police say officers executed a search warrant at Hong's home and recovered evidence linking him to the crime. Hong is now charged with burglary, two counts of felony animal cruelty, and two counts of grand larceny-animal, say police. He is being held without bond and has a court date on June 13, according to police.
As for the male dog, he has been treated and returned to his owner.
