TAKOMA PARK (WUSA9) -- A handful of pot-dispensing businesses in the district hope to start doling out doses soon.

After a final inspection, the Takoma Wellness Center may open by mid-April. It's been three years in the making for the Khans, who aren't worried about making money, in one sense.

"Whatever profits we make will be given away to 501-c charities both here in our neighborhood and those that support conditions of our patients," explained Rabbi Jeffrey Khan.

Their inspiration is Stephanie Khan's parents, who suffered from multiple sclerosis and cancer.

"I wish they would have had a place like this where they could feel comfortable. It wasn't counterculture, warm but professional and they could feel safe and get medicine they need," Mrs. Khan said.

We're told the center will be high-security. Patients would be able to buy up to two ounces of marijuana per month, probably at market value with a valid registration and identification card.
