WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- DC Fire Chief Kenneth Ellerbe is testifying before DC Council members on Thursday.
He is being asked about an incident in which a police officer injured in a hit and run had to wait 15 minutes for an ambulance from Maryland.
The failure to provide an ambulance to the injured officer and other shortcomings in the fire department's fleet have raised questions about Ellerbe's leadership and the fire department's resources. Individual employees were blamed for the ambulance response. But the district's inspector general found there are a lack of adequate reserve vehicles for emergencies.
