UPPER MARLBORO, MD (WUSA9) -- Aaron Thomas who has been dubbed as the "East Coast Rapist" has been indicted on six counts of first degree rape in Prince George's County, State's Attorney announced today.
Thomas has been sentenced to three life terms in addition to 80 years, by a Prince William County Virginia judge. He pleaded guilty of abducting three teenage girls and raping two of them on a Halloween night of 2009. He is responsible for more than 17 attacks across Virginia, Maryland, Connecticut and Rhode Island, it said in a press release.
"While we know that Mr. Thomas will spend the rest of his life in prison for his crimes, it is important that we prosecute him for the attacks he committed in our county, so these six victims can receive justice and closure from this terrible incident in their lives," Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said in the press release.
Alsobrooks also said that prosecuting Thomas was essential since this would send a message deterring would-be criminals "that if you come into Prince George's County and commit a crime, the police will arrest you and her office will prosecute you to ensure you are held responsible for your actions," said in a press release.
Thomas' arraignment is scheduled for April 12, 2013.
