WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- With the looming sequester and the effort to try to make sure that goes away soon, there are a lot of small businesses concerned about how they are going to pay their bills.

Former Arkansas Senator Blanche Lincoln served in Congress for 16 years. Now, she is speaking out for small businesses who could possibly be hit very hard by the sequester.

Lincoln is a spokesperson for the National Federation of Small Business. We asked her how these businesses are possibly going to suffer.

"Sequester will probably affect everybody to some degree, whether you're a federal employee, whether you're a small business that is going to be providing products to defense contractors and other things like that. The sequester is going to be temporary, though. You're already seeing that they're going to be doing a cr. the cr is going to go until September."

A CR is a continuing resolution which funds the government, explained Lincoln.
