ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Alexandria Police Officer Peter Laboy continues his recovery at Medstar Washington Hospital Center and remains in critical but stable condition.
He would've been riding in the annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Old Town Alexandria, today, if someone hadn't shot him in the head.
The beginning of the parade was dedicated to Officer Laboy and his recovery.
The Grand Marshal led a moment of silence for their colleague.
The annual St. Patty's day parade is traditionally lead by the Police Motorcycle Unit. But the festivities is minus one, Officer Peter Laboy.
On Wednesday, cab driver Kashif Bashir, 27, allegedly shot Laboy in the head during a routine traffic stop. Bashir has been charged in connection to the shooting.
Sgt. Brian Thompson, Alexandria Motor Unit, "the moment of silence meant a lot to us. We went back to the incident and had a moment of silence just to pull through for Pete. We knew Pete would've wanted us to come and he would want the citizens to know he's pulling through and things go on and we're thinking about him while we are doing it."
Captain Shahram Fard with the Alexandria Police Association Board of Trustees is heading up the donations for the family.
Officer Laboy continues to improve. Doctors say he is moving his arms and legs.
Fard says they are providing meals and basic needs for the family. Some of the most touching donations have no monetary value. He says it's the get well cards from the children.
Officer Laboy's wife, Suzanne, has set up a website where you can make donations and find out about Officer Laboy's progress.
"I reached to his hand and he grabbed it. He pulled me to his chest and gave me a hug. He is amazing."
