DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. (WUSA9) -- A pit bull was fatally shot after it charged at a police officer on Tuesday, officials say.

According to Prince George's County Police, a rental office on Lorring Drive in District Heights called police at about 4:20 p.m. due to concerns about an aggressive dog running loose near a school bus stop.

When the officer arrived the pit bull charged at the apartment's security officers and the officer, police said.

Police said the officer feared for his life and the security officers and shot the dog. The pit bull died on the scene.
