Chief Manger Discusses Recent Crime In Montgomery County

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A family in Silver Spring's White Oak neighborhood is grieving after the murder of a seven month old girl. Meanwhile, there are questions about why their 14-year-old suspect is being charged as an adult.

Montgomery County Police Chief Tom Manger, joined JC Hayward on Monday to talk about the recent crime that has taken place throughout Montgomery County including the homicide involving a 14-year-old boy and several buglaries.

To gain understanding of police work, The Montgomery County Police Department is currently accepting applications for future sessions of the Citizen Academy. The program is free, however, participants must be 18 years of age or older and either live or work in Montgomery County.

Participants who are selected for the program are required to attend 14 of the 18 classes to be eligible for graduation. Some of the topics covered include: firearm safety, Maryland traffic law, investigating major crimes, drug identification, scams and fraud, prostitution, and more.
