GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WUSA) -- A man suffered life threatening injuries in a two-car crash on Ritchie Highway and Furnace Branch Road in Glen Burnie on Tuesday afternoon, say Anne Arundel County police.
Police say a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling southbound on Ritchie Highway towards the traffic signal at Furnace Branch Road, and southbound traffic was stopped at the intersection for a red signal. According to police, the Dodge Caravan had a green arrow and was making the left turn onto Furnace Branch Road when, according to witnesses, the Dodge Ram pulled into a right turn only lane, entered the intersection against the light traveling straight and was struck by the Caravan.
The Dodge Ram then rotated slightly and struck a support pole with the passenger door. The passenger was partially trapped in the vehicle and later extricated. The passenger, 26-year-old Daniel Joseph Boss Jr. of Stevensville, is in critical condition at University of Maryland Shock Trauma.
Police say everyone else, a woman and child in the caravan and the driver of the Ram, were okay.
Police say right now evidence suggests error on the part of the driver of the Dodge Ram contributed to the crash.
Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to call the Traffic Safety Section at 410-222-8573.
