White Plains, NY (Sports Network) - John Isner and Sam Querrey will play
singles next week when the host United States meets Brazil in an opening-round
Davis Cup tie in Jacksonville, Fla. from February 1-3.
Team USA will be captained by former world No. 1 star Jim Courier, who has
selected a team of the 6-foot-9 Isner, Querrey and the Bryan brothers, Bob and
Mike, for next week's best-of-five indoor hardcourt affair.
The Brazilians are captained by Joao Zwetsch and will feature Thomaz Bellucci,
Thiago Alves, Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial
The Americans are 3-1 all-time versus Brazil, with their last meeting coming
in 1997 when the visiting U.S. won a first-round matchup 4-1 in Ribeirao
Preto. The two nations first met in 1932, and the Brazilians haven't beaten
the Americans since 1966.
The 32-time champion U.S. lost to the mighty Spaniards in a semifinal in
Gijon, Spain last year.
