WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) -  A patient at Frederick Memorial Hospital has died of complications from the flu, according to a hospital spokesperson.

The spokesperson confirmed the death to WUSA9 on Friday evening.

The hospital has already had more than three times the total number of flu cases than it had for the total of 2012, according to the Frederick News-Post.

Of the 94 cases confirmed between Jan. 1 and Jan. 10, ten of the patients were admitted to the intensive care unit, the newspaper reported.

The hospital treated only had 29 confirmed cases of the flu from Nov. 2011 through March 2012, and just two were admitted for treatment during last year's flu season, the Frederick News-Post reported.
