WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) -  Two organizations well known for their generosity throughout the year may soon be going against each other in a court of law.

The Salvation Army is trying to evict a group that is backed by Union Temple Baptist Church in Southeast, DC.

Bruce Johnson reports on the argument between the two.

The Spirit fitness and wellness center which was founded and promoted by Union Temple Baptist church, and is housed in the Salvation Army's Southeast D.C. headquarters.

It seemed like the perfect fit some years ago when the well-known non profit teamed with the church to launch a fitness center where there had been none in this part of town---but that was then:

A representative for Union Temple declined public comment Monday. The church just recently helped distribute two thousandfree turkeys to needy families. The fitness center was to be another example of its community reach.

But The Salvation Army says it's had to make up for the rent the church hasn't paid.
This year alone the red kettles are hoping to collect $1.6 million  for Washington area causes.
