Police: Car Theft Suspect Caught With Screwdriver In Hand

TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA) -- Takoma Park police say they have arrested and charged a Temple Hills man after he allegedly stole a car. on Tuesday.

Twenty-two-year-old Troy Lamont Sweetney is charged with auto theft, possession of burglary tools, theft over $1,000, possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and CDS paraphernalia.

According to police, officers found a car in a back parking lot in the 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue, which had tags matching a stolen car from Prince George's County. About 25 minutes later, officers reportedly saw Sweetney get into the car through the driver's side door.  Officers went up to Sweetney and saw a screwdriver in his hand, according to police. 

Officers also saw that the steering column on the vehicle was broken and the left ignition module was exposed and hanging from the column.  They also found Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and paraphernalia in Sweetney's possession, according to police.
