ST. MARY'S COUNTY, Md. (WUSA) -- On Monday afternoon, a man lost his life in St. Mary's County after losing control of his truck and hitting trees.
Authorities say Stephen George Riley III of Mechanicsville was driving his 2011 Ford F150 eastbound on Budds Creek Road on Monday shortly before 4:45 p.m. when his truck left the road and entered a ditch. According to their investigation, Riley over-corrected when trying to get control back and the truck went back onto the road, crossing a lane of traffic and then going into a wooded area. It hit several trees and Riley was trapped inside the vehicle.
Deputies found the truck with Riley inside in the wooded area near the Potomac Motor Speedway. He was the only person in the vehicle. Riley succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
According to authorities, speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call Primary Crash Investigator Deputy First Class William Watters at 301-475-4200 Ext. 9114.
