Metro Red Line Service Suspended Between Rhode Island Ave and Takoma for Suspicious Package Investigation

WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Red Line train service was split into two segments on Friday afternoon. Red Line were operating between Glenmont and Takoma, and between Rhode Island Ave-Shady Grove due to police activity outside Fort Totten station, said Metro. 

At 1:14 p.m. Metro reported that train service was being restored between Takoma and Rhode Island Avenue and that riders should expect residual delays of about 30 minutes in both directions.

DC police are investigating a suspicious package on the 4800 block of Fort Totten Road.

Metro warned riders that trains may offload before Takoma/Rhode Island Ave. Officials urged riders to listen for announcements.

Shuttle buses serviced Brookland and Ft Totten from both Takoma & Rhode Island Avenue.

Catholic University, which had closed the Raymond A. DuFour Athletic Center due to the police activity and moved activities at the DuFour Center to the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center, is reopening the Reopen DuFour Center at 3:30 p.m.

The police activity at the Fort Totten Transfer Waste Station at Bates Street and John McCormack Road has been resolved. The DC Department of Public Works announced that the Ft. Totten Transfer Station closed early due to equipment failure,but officials expect  the transfer station to reopen at its normal time, 8 a.m., on Saturday.
