FORESTVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- A fiery early-morning crash on Marlboro Pike has left one person dead in Forestville.
Corporal Larry Johnson, spokesman for the Prince George's County Police Department, says a vehicle heading southbound in the 7100 block of Marlboro Pike struck a pole near the Forest Village Park Mall shortly after 3:00 Thursday morning. The collision brought down wires around the vehicle, which caught fire.
Prince Georges County firefighters responded to the scene of the violent crash, however the still-electrified downed wires prevented rescue crews from accessing the vehicle to put out the flames. Corporal Johnson says Pepco workers were eventually able to cut power to the lines, allowing the fire to be extinguished. That's when fire crews discovered deceased driver inside the vehicle.
Right now there are no details to release on the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Prince George's County Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash scene, which has shut down Marlboro Pike in both directions at Donnell Drive.
