WASHINGTON (AP) - A new temporary arts program and festival is intended to support and promote southeast Washington.

The three-month initiative, called LUMEN8Anacostia, was announced Saturday by Mayor Vincent Gray.

The project runs through June and is scheduled to include more than 100 performers, 30 visual artists and ten boutiques in the Anacostia Business District. Vacant storefronts, lots and public spaces along Good Hope Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE will be temporarily illuminated.

The D.C. Office of Planning received a grant for the program for a private-public collaboration called ArtPlace America.
