(WMAZ) -- BIBB COUNTY, Ga. (WUSA) -- A Bibb County grand jury today indicted Stephen McDaniel for the murder of Lauren Giddings.
That's according to an indictment from the clerk's office at Bibb County Superior Court, released just after noon.
McDaniel, a former Mercer Law School student, faces one count of murder and 30 counts of child sexual exploitation. Those charges apparently stem from child pornography allegedly found on a flash drive in McDaniel's apartment.
The indictment charges that he killed Giddings on an "unknown date" with an "unknown instrument."
Giddings' decapitated and dismembered body was found June 30 outside the Georgia Avenue apartment building where they both lived.
McDaniel was charged the next day with petty burglaries at two neighbors' apartments. Since then, he's been held in the Bibb County jail.
About a month later, police charged McDaniel with Giddings' murder. Then several weeks later, they also filed the child-pornography charge against him.
This morning, the grand jury heard from the district attorney and a police investigator presenting evidence against him.
Winters and Macon police detective David Patterson, lead investigator in the case, would not comment this morning when they arrived at the grand jury room and when they left about an hour later.
They left the room around 10:30 a.m. and declined comment.
