AMBER ALERT: Curtis Lopez In Custody In Connection To William McQuain Missing And Jane McQuain's Death In Germantown

GERMANTOWN, Md. (WUSA) -- A suspect is in custody in Charlotte, N.C., in connection with the slaying of a Germantown woman and a missing boy. 

Forty-five-year-old Curtis Lopez is being charged with first degree murder on a Maryland warrant, in the death of Jane McQuain, police said. He is due for an extradition hearing in Mecklenburg County, N.C. Monday afternoon. 


Lopez was seen taking property from her home, Montgomery County Police. He was contacted Wednesday night. He was arrested Thursday morning leaving an Econo Lodge, in N.C.

An Amber Alert was issued after police found McQuain dead in her home for her missing son.

The missing boy, William McQuain, 11, was last seen near 13100 Briarcliff Terrace in Germantown, Md. Police said during a news conference Thursday evening that the boy was not found with Lopez.

Police found the missing black Honda CRV with Maryland tags 5AG9405 at around 8:30 a.m. Thursday. They are not saying where they found the car.

William is 5'0" tall, weighs 85 pounds. His skin color is identified as bi-racial. William has brown hair and brown eyes.

William is a student at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Germantown. The school sent a letter home to parents, stating they would have grief counselors and other resources for the children. 

William was last seen at the home on Sept. 30. Police are hoping to locate him soon.
