FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA) -- A retail assault task force has been created to track down a serial slasher in Virginia, according to Fairfax County Police.
Police say the internal task force is an effort to find a suspect in the serial assaults that have taken place at retail stores since February 2011. The last known assault was July 25.
Although no reports have been filed outside of Fairfax County, Police met with officers from neighboring jurisdictions this morning to share information and increase their awareness of the ongoing investigation.
Members of the task force and other police officials discussed information sharing, investigative leads, unit coordination and staffing operations.
Police say they're utilizing a variety of techniques and personnel in their investigation, including additional uniformed officers throughout malls and retail centers across the area.
