Prince George's County Police Shoot Suspect

MT. RAINIER, Md. (WUSA) -- Prince George's County Police take two into custody after officers shoot a suspect.

Police officials tell 9NEWS NOW officers were in the area of Queens Chapel Road and Chillum Road in Mt. Rainer Saturday night because of several citizen complaints about a person acting erratic, throwing bottles and banging on windows.

When uniformed officers attempted to approach the suspect about the disturbance, the suspect began firing on the officers, striking one officer in his duty belt.

The magazine pouch to his duty belt stopped the bullet from penetrating the officer's body. The officer was transported to the hospital.

Three officers returned fire, striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Two additional suspect were taken into custody.

The names of the officers involved or the suspects have not been released.
