WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Smoke was spotted coming out of an escalator at Dupont Circle Monday night.
Metro's Lisa Farbstein says this was an escalator that some rainwater leaked into and caused the motor on the escalator to smoke.
Metro simply shut the escalator down, leaving only an up escalator for the P and 20th St entrance at the station.
There are three escalators at this entrance: an Up escalator which remained in service, the middle escalator which is down for maintenance, and the Down escalator, which was the one affected Monday night.
No injuries were reported.
