WASHINGTON (WUSA) - Two burglary suspects are dead, another is in custody, after a shootout with DC Police Sunday night. It happened outside the home of six Catholic University students in the 1000 block of Irving Street, Northeast.

Nineteen-year-old Davon Sealy of Gaithersburg and 21-year-old Akeem Jamaal Cayo of Gaithersburg are dead. The third suspect, 21-year-old Stefan Fields, was arrested on the scene and faces charges of felony assault on a police officer and armed burglary.

According to an email from 5th District Commander Lamar Greene, officers from DC Police were sent to the 1000 block of Irving Street in Northeast around 10:30 Sunday night after masked subjects were reportedly seen entering a home. Police arrived on the scene quickly and confirmed there was a home invasion in progress.

Neighbors say there was a party of around 20 people, including a handful of Catholic University students when the robbery suspects barged in.  Ward 5 Councilman Harry Thomas says the students were able to find a safe place and call police.

"As the house is surrounded by police, the gunman exited the house and shots were fired," said DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier.  "Two of the three gunmen were struck.  They have both been pronounced dead."

No officers were injured in the shootout, nor were any of the students inside the home.

"What I feel comfortable saying right now is that this does not appear to be a random crime," said Chief Lanier.  "It appears that this particular place may have been targeted."

Police say the suspects will be investigated for possible connections to other crimes in the area.
