GREEENSBORO, NC -- Virginia Tech senior forward, Jeff Allen, and North Carolina freshman guard, Kendall Marshall, received ACC honors for their outstanding performances in last week's match-ups.
Originally from the District, Allen played high school basketball at DeMatha and Oak Hill Academy. He also played as a postgraduate at Hargrave Military Academy. On Monday, he was named ACC Player of the Week, as he recorded a pair of double-doubles in conference road games. In the the Hokies' 77-69 win over NC Sate last Wednesday, Allen scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds. On Saturday, in Tech's 58-56 loss to Boston College, Allen scored 25 points, grabbed 19 rebounds and had three steals. After last week's games Allen has four consecutive double-doubles, making his career total 39.
Marshall, of Dumfries, Va., graduated from Bishop O'Connell High School. He and teammate Harrison Barnes were named Co-ACC Rookies of the Week. In the Tar Heels' two victories last week, Marshall had 22 assists and five turnovers. In last Tuesday's 106-74 win over Boston College, Marshall scored seven points and had six assists. On Sunday, in North Carolina's 89-69 victory over Florida State, Marshall finished with 16 assists and nine points. Marshall's 16 assists in Sunday's game set a new UNC freshman record for assists in any game and are the most assists ever by a Tar Heel in an ACC game.
