WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- An alleged car thief is in custody after an overnight pursuit crossing two police jurisdictions.
Montgomery County Police tell 9NEWS NOW they received a report of a stolen black Jeep Cherokee in the 600 block of Sligo Avenue around 2:35 Friday morning. Officers on patrol spotted the vehicle in a few different locations in the county and tried to pursue the suspect, but kept losing sight of it.
Montgomery County Police officers again caught sight of the Cherokee shortly after 3:00 a.m. on Carroll Avenue in front of the Takoma Park Police station. Police lost sight of the Jeep once again but were able to catch up with the suspect in Northwest DC, where it crashed into two other vehicles and landed on it's side near a gas station at Georgia Avenue and Piney Branch Road.
Police say the suspect bailed out of the Jeep, and officers set up a perimeter with the assistance of DC Police. After a brief foot-chase, the man was taken into custody in the 800 block of Underwood Street around 3:40 a.m.
No one was injured during the pursuit or the theft of the vehicle.
