WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Pentagon says a soldier from Frostburg has died in the war in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department said Monday that 28-year-old Army Spc. David Lutes died Thursday in Landstuhl, Germany, three days after he was wounded by an improvised bomb in Nangarhar province.

Lutes was with the 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division of Fort Campbell, Ky.

His mother told the Cumberland Times-News that Lutes was married with two children.

She says the 2001 graduate of Westmar High School was beginning his third year of military service.
