CUMBERLAND, Md.-- (WUSA) Wednesday night's severe thunderstorms claimed the life of a woman riding her bicycle in western Maryland, police said.

It happened just after 6 p.m., when police say Dawn Jackson, 49, of Cumberland, was riding her bike on the Allegany Highlands Trail near the Valley Street intersection during a thunderstorm. Heavy winds and rain toppled a tree that crushed the woman while she was riding along.

Police treated Jackson on the scene, until they could pull her from under the tree and rush her to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center where she later died.
