WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Scores of young people left their summer job assignments on Monday to stack the DC Council Chambers for a hearing.
At stake is whether they will be allowed to work an extra week this month in the summer jobs program.
Mayor Adrian Fenty is asking the DC Council allow him to transfer about 8 million federal dollars from the Human Services department to the Employment Services department for the extra week.
Its not an easy decision for the legislators. That money is now being used for programs that assist homeless families.
The Councilmember have scheduled a vote for Tuesday-but some called the Fenty administration out for what they describe as "mismanagement" of the summer jobs programs.
